VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebration at the Park
On 8 May 2025, we mark the historic 80th anniversary of VE Day, with the peoples, families and communities of our great nation coming together to unite and celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe that so many millions paid the ultimate sacrifice to achieve it.
VE Day 80 is not only a tribute to those who fought for the freedom we all enjoy today, but also a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined our country ever since.
There is a mix of sadness as we remember those who gave their lives during the conflict and joy as we celebrate the end of the war.
Wythall Community Association are proud to be the hosts of one the thousand beacons spread across our countryside, which we will be lighting, alongside hundreds of lamp lights of peace to shine across the country.
The full program of events at the Park on Thursday are as follows:
At 4pm, Bounce and Ride, who proved such a hit last summer, will be setting up their bouncy castles and other fun childrens’ entertainment, and Dobson’s Fair are providing a couple of rides!
6pm, Wythall Community Club opens. We have a Temporary Event Notice, so it is open to all, and thanks to the generous support of Alice Batham, your first chance to try Batham’s Best Bitter in Wythall! As well as, of course, all the other fine beers, ciders, wines and spirits!
Twisted Kitchen will also be on site with their fabulous wood-fired pizzas and burgers from Dobsons.
8pm sees the return of the Cheswick Green Ukulele Orchestra to the Britannia Room with a range of hits from the 40’s and on.
Beer, pizza and singalong songs! Can it get any better?
At 9pm we have the start of the celebratory part of the event. Thanks to Bromsgrove District Council, we have fireworks from Wythall’s award winning team.
When the smoke has cleared, Marcus Pagnum from St Mary’s Church will read the Exhortation and Kohima, assisted by Sam Hewitt from Kings Norton Marching Band with the Last Post and Reveille, and Albert Bishop raising the Royal British Legion Standard.
Then at 9:30pm, Craig Smith, Royal Navy veteran, will temporarily cease pizza-cooking duties, and light the beacon of hope.
Then it is back to the Community Club for more music from the CGUO! And more beer and pizza?
The car parks will be free from 3pm to midnight.
Wythall Cider Festival
Saturday 5 July we have the Wythall Charity Cider Festival from noon ‘till late.
An eclectic range of over 20 Ciders, with something for everyone, including, of course, Lashford’s sausages, but make sure you pack your dancing shoes for the Samba band on in the afternoon.
Wythall Cider Festival Tasting Notes
We are delighted to have Crazi Jalfrezi Catering providing catering at the cider festival. They will be there throughout the day, situated in the Britannia Room.
Volunteer slots behind the bar or on the door are open (and some already booked), so if you fancy helping out, please get in touch.
£5 per entry or £3 when buying cider vouchers.

We’re renowned for our incredible Beer Festivals, so we’re really excited to introduce our brand-new Craft Beer Festival on Saturday March 22nd
10+ craft beers to sample, plus our usual selection of real ales and a fully licensed bar. A full list of the beers can be found HERE.
Delicious food – Burgers in the afternoon (supporting Kings Heath Concorde Football Club) and mouth watering pizzas from Pizza Heaven in the evening.
Live music – Two amazing bands performing in the afternoon and evening to keep the vibes going.
Great value – The best local entertainment at unbeatable prices, all while supporting our Charity, which will receive 100% of the funds raised.
