SUMMARY:Wythall Local History Society
DESCRIPTION:The Society meets at 7.30pm in the Village Hall on the last Friday of the\nmonth except for the summer recess in July and August \, and December.\nThe committee was re-formed in January following a special general meeting\nand a new team of members were elected to the committee.\nThe shared aim of our new committee members is to provide a fresh stimulus\nto the activities of the Society. We endeavour to have a varied programme\nwhich appeals to people interested in local history. Following our meetings\nwe have refreshments when members can discuss the evening talk and/or engage the speaker. \nIn June/July we have an outing to a place of local/national interest. This\nsummer we visited Shelsley Walsh to see the recently restored watermill\, the\nvillage\, its historic church\, and the village itself. (Shelsley Walsh is nationally\nknown for its Hill Climbing Events). \nThe programme for 2019/20 is as follows:- \n\n\n\nSeptember 27th . “ The Murder of Mary Ashford.” (a crime which led to\nchanges in the laws of England) Speaker:- Barrie Stokes. Followed by the\nAGM\nOctober 25th . “ 101 Great British Curiosities.” Speaker. Dr Colin Harris.\nMembers will be challenged to identify the uses of a variety of artefacts on\ndisplay.\nNovember 29th . “Christmases in World War 11”. Speaker Alan Gullivar\nJanuary 31st “ The History of Kinwarton”. ( A village near Coughton)\nSpeaker: Alan Godfrey\nFebruary 28th “Off to the Workhouse”. Speaker Richard Churchley\nMarch 27th “The story of Chadwick Manor” . Speaker: George Gascoyne\nApril 24th “Mad Dogs /Maria Marten”. Speaker: Mary Bodfish\nMay 29th “An eye on Needle Making in Redditch”. Speaker Mr David Morgan\n\n\n\nWhy not join us?\nMembership only costs £15 per year ( payable at the September meeting).\nVisitors to specific meetings £2.50 \nBarrie Stokes ( Publicity )
